Agent reveals Manchester City approach – Long term interest in Nottingham Forest player
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessNicolò Savona’s agent Michele Puglisi has confirmed Manchester City made an approach for the player before he left Juventus for Nottingham Forest in the summer window.
Tutto Juve have interviewed the agent, and discussed his client’s move to Nottingham Forest and about Manchester City.
Earlier in the summer window, Pep Guardiola’s side were credited with interest in the 22-year-old, and the outlet specifically asked the agent whether a move to Manchester City was possible or was it a media speculation.
Responding to that, he said: “City enquired, there was some contact, and they reiterated their high regard for him. Then I don’t know if it can be considered a possibility or not.”
The representative explained Nottingham Forest initially made an approach for the right-back months ago, but there were no concrete movements due to an injury he suffered with Juve at the Club World Cup.
“Yes, it was a club that had already enquired about the situation in the preceding months. The injury at the Club World Cup, while not serious, didn’t help and somewhat slowed down the interest of other teams,” Puglisi explained.
“Everyone involved knew his recovery time and that it was therefore a situation that could be resolved in a few weeks, but Nicolò trained separately, didn’t play in friendlies, and didn’t go to Germany. This didn’t help matters in terms of timing, but it’s done now. The management has been very good.”
The Reds didn’t give up and decided to move forwards to sign the Italian in matter of days towards the end of the window.
On Nottingham Forest signing Savona quickly, he added: “Nicolò had just renewed his contract with the club, and there was a desire to continue this relationship. Juventus, very honestly, told us they would evaluate any offers received during the transfer window.”
“This had always left the door open; the Premier League was certainly a league that continued to show interest in him. In recent days, as usual, things have been able to unblock more quickly, and we’ve resumed contact with Nottingham. And the moment we realised there was a possibility, that’s when it happened.”
Nuno Espírito Santo was the Premier League club’s manager when Savona joined them and has been replaced by Ange Postecoglou earlier this week.
Tutto Juve asked the agent whether the managerial changes at the English club could have ‘any repercussions for the youngster’.
“Absolutely nothing will change, especially since Mr. Espirito Santo had the opportunity to see him a couple of times. He’s professional, he’ll always work hard,” the agent said.
