‘Departure is almost certain’ – Only a miracle can save Leeds United player
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessLeeds United loanee Jack Harrison’s performances have improved at Fiorentina over the past few weeks. But a permanent deal for the Englishman remains difficult.
Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered comments from the winger about his desire to stay at Fiorentina. He made his love for the city quite clear, as he enjoys himself under Paolo Vanoli.
The Englishman scored his first goal for La Viola against Lecce on Monday, showing how he’s having an impact. This came right after he assisted against Lazio and Hellas Verona, coming in with crucial contributions at a time of need.
Fiorentina are now eight points clear of relegation. Despite that, the Leeds United winger may not join them permanently.
Fiorentina not convinced
Tuttomercatoweb note that Harrison is enjoying a period of ‘dazzling form’ and has proved key in the battle against relegation. He seems to be taking Vanoli’s advice to shoot more often and it paid off against Lecce.
The outlet feel even if the winger has overturned his perception at the club, things may not be simple.
Even if Harrison has been the second-most used new signing this season, Fiorentina have doubts about a permanent deal.
They paid a loan fee of €1m in January and have an option to buy of €8m. The price tag is low but as of now, Fabio Paratici doesn’t see Harrison as a priority. This is why his ‘departure is almost certain’, even if the player himself would prefer a different ending to the story.
Our take: Not the end of the world for Harrison
Harrison’s current contract at Leeds United runs out in 2028, which suggests the Whites can still earn something from his exit.
Because of that, the winger’s should focus on doing as well as he can in Florence. This will keep his stock high and potentially, he can also end up staying in England next season.
This will help Leeds United earn a transfer fee instead of a loan fee. Not just that, they also wouldn’t have to rely on an option to buy to earn that.
