Arsenal player has ‘special bond’ with another club – Gunners working to break it, offer new contract

Real Madrid would like to make Arsenal star William Saliba the new leader of their defence.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who say it’s ‘no secret’ the centre-back is the priority target for the La Liga giants.

Los Blancos have been holding talks with parties for several weeks and internally, this track is described as ‘concrete’.

The France international is close to his compatriot and Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé. The report adds he has ‘always maintained a special bond’ with the Spanish club, which he regards as the highest level attainable.’

Saliba, who has contract is until 2027, doesn’t want to enter into a conflict with Arsenal.

L’Equipe state the Gunners insist they won’t set a price tag because Mikel Arteta doesn’t want to lose the 24-year-old.

They want to secure his long-term future, and Arsenal have already offered the defender a contract extension.

The details aren’t mentioned, but Arsenal are hoping to convince the centre-back that he can win trophies with them. This makes it difficult for Real Madrid to sign him.

Despite this, a transfer in the summer window is still possible, depending on the fee Real Madrid are willing to offer. According to the report, Saliba is valued at €100m.

In the coming weeks, there should be more clarity if Los Blancos can make progress with this operation. Arsenal, for their part, are working to secure Saliba’s long-term future.
