Atletico Madrid confirm five missing for Liverpool clash – Latest injury added on Monday
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessAtletico Madrid have confirmed that they will be without five key players as they take on Liverpool at Anfield this week.
A post on their official X account reports that Thiago Almada, José María Giménez, Alex Baena, Julián Alvarez and Johnny Cardoso will all miss the Champions League clash with Liverpool on Wednesday.
The Spanish side confirmed their travelling party for the clash at Anfield, before then explaining the absentees.
Reports earlier in the day had stated that Alvarez was highly likely to miss the game after picking up an injury in the weekend’s 2-0 win over Villarreal. He was forced off in that game and Atletico now state that the same ‘discomfort’ will see him miss a return to England.
Cardoso, meanwhile, is the latest to join the injury list. The Spanish side reports that their summer signing sprained his left ankle in training on Monday and won’t be travelling to the game against Liverpool as a result. There is no explanation for the other absentees.
Their absence is surely to be welcomed by Liverpool, though, who will fancy their chances of getting their Champions League campaign off to a flying start at home against Diego Simeone’s side.
