Pundit believes Manchester City star can shock everyone with January move
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessBack in September, TuttoSport reported Juventus were looking to sign Manchester City Bernardo Silva in 2026.
There was belief that initial contact had been made for the Portuguese attacker, whose contract at the Etihad runs out in the summer. That contractual situation has been attracting clubs around European football.
That is why the Bianconeri would want him. They see a free transfer as a way to get a quality player, much the same way as Napoli secured Kevin De Bruyne when his contract expired with Pep Guardiola’s side.
So far, there has been no movement on Bernardo’s new contract at Manchester City, and there’s a growing expectation he’s leaving.
Former striker and current pundit Paolo Di Canio was part of the Sky Italia panel for the Serie A clash between Inter Milan and Napoli on Sunday. He spoke about Bernardo Silva player, saying he’s heard the Portugal international could even leave Manchester City in January.
Di Canio said, as relayed by CalcioNapoli24: “I’d feel guilty naming a name. There’s been a call for a midfielder who could play as a central midfielder or even as an attacking midfielder.
“The name that could be coming to Italy is Bernardo Silva. He could perhaps even move in January to a team that plays at a fast pace and with a ground-based style.”
Di Canio further suggested Como and Juventus as possible destinations.
“Como? They could sign anyone. He’d even fit in well with a team like Juventus.”
This is interesting because last week, TuttoJuve reiterated Juventus have made contact with the 31-year-old’s entourage. If anything, Di Canio’s assumption could be based on that information, but he said it’s his own information.
Manchester City would surely block January exit
Bernardo Silva has already played close to 2000 minutes for Manchester City this season. He has captained the side on many occasions, filling in at right wing in recent weeks.
This shows the trust that Pep Guardiola still has. The Portuguese magician may be older now, but with that he adds experience to a side which is undergoing transition.
That is why an exit in January feels quite improbable, unless something dramatic happens.
