Training battles with Haaland
During the interview, Dias was asked about his training duels with the Norwegian striker. He didn’t hold back in his assessment.
“Training with Erling? It’s dangerous,” he stated, as quoted by the show. “When we train seriously, there are usually sparks flying. I’d classify him as one of those strikers who has to be 100 to 0… A one percent chance is enough for him to score a goal.”
Dias’ experience of facing him in training clearly gives him a unique perspective on just how clinical the striker can be.
Brotherhood with Bernardo Silva
The Manchester City defender, currently recovering from injury, also discussed his close relationship with Bernardo Silva. He confirmed he sees his compatriot as a brother figure at the club.
“Yes, absolutely,” Dias said when asked about their bond. “It has to do with the very similar way we both see life, even though we’re completely different people. Just look at how I take care of my body and how he takes care of his.”
He spoke about their differing approaches to physical conditioning was delivered with clear humor. It suggests a close friendship built on mutual respect despite their different personalities and lifestyles.
Mentality and sacrifice
On what separates him from other players, Dias pointed to his mentality. He highlighted his willingness to make sacrifices throughout his career as the key factors behind his rise to the top.
“I’m different because I’ve always been willing to sacrifice more than anyone else,” he explained. “If you don’t have the mentality, there’s no point in coming here, because this will expose you. I don’t want any memory other than high performance at the highest level that exists.”
It’s a telling insight into the mindset required to succeed at a club like Manchester City. The standards are exceptionally high and the pressure to perform is constant.
