Manchester United and Chelsea send officials for Bologna winger

by · Sport Witness

Jonathan Rowe has impressed for Bologna in the last few weeks and is now on the radar of Chelsea and Manchester United.

The Englishman’s move to Italy was clouded in controversy. It came after he was involved in a scuffle with Adrien Rabiot at Marseille, leading to the French club suspending tboth players.

He took a while to settle in at Bologna but has been on fire in the past few weeks. Rowe scored in league games against Verona and Cremonese, also impressing in the Europa League.

Across two legs against Roma, the winger contributed to three goals. Against Aston Villa in the first leg of the quarter-final, he found the net with a terrific curling effort.

Inevitably, he is now attracting attention from England. Manchester United and Chelsea are keeping a close eye on the attacker.

England talked up as destination

Gazzetta dello Sport today offer insight into Rowe’s situation. They take note of rumours on social media about a Premier League club’s €34m offer for the player. They reject the information, saying that no clubs have made any approaches.

The newspaper make it clear that Rowe could end up in England soon.

Scouts from Chelsea and Manchester United have kept an eye on him. They have been present at games involving the ex-Norwich City player, as they’re trying to assess the feasibility of a deal.

Bologna are looking to keep Rowe but offers of around €40m can convince them to sell him. The same stands true for the player too, who will be quite keen on a move to England, after having previously impressed at Norwich before the switch to Marseille.

Our take: Clubs should keep monitoring

Rowe hasn’t always convinced consistently for Marseille or Bologna. He has only performed in bursts, as evident from his recent impressive spell with the Rossoblu.

That’s why Manchester United and Chelsea shouldn’t rush into signing him. Scouting him is the best plan.

The 22-year-old has already expressed a desire to move to the Premier League at some point in the future. This should be enough hope for the Red Devils and the Blues, who are looking to sign wide players in the summer.
