John Murtough can help Manchester United in €50m deal – Red Devils now favourites

Atalanta’s Ederson appears closer to leaving than ever, and Manchester United are now leading the race for the midfielder.

Since 2024, Sport Witness have covered the Red Devils interest in the midfielder. They have made initial contact for him but a formal offer has never materialised.

Ederson ended up staying in Bergamo and so far, there has been no progress over a new deal. Atletico Madrid are also keen, with the player’s current contract running out in 2027.

Manchester United have sensed this as an opportunity, jumping ahead of the Spanish side for the Brazil international.

Murtough can dictate transfer

Tuttomercatoweb note that Ederson has an agreement over personal terms with Atletico Madrid. He agreed to sign a deal worth €4m per season but problems arose during club-to-club negotiations.

Los Rojiblancos made an offer in January but it didn’t meet Atalanta’s valuation.

This has given Manchester United a chance to make their own attempt. Discussions with Ederson’s entourage have intensified, with John Murtough’s presence in Bergamo likely to help the Red Devils.

It is believed an offer worth €50m can seal the deal for Michael Carrick’s side. The exact structure of the deal that La Dea want is unknown but Manchester United are the leading candidate for Ederson now.

There is growing belied  the 26-year-old will leave in the summer.
