‘Unexpected news’ – Player contemplating Crystal Palace future after Sage decision

Crystal Palace‘s Jefferson Lerma is considering a move away from the Premier League side after the latest developments. 

That’s according to Colombia.com, who cover what has convinced the 31-year-old to contemplate leaving Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace take decision 

At the end of last season, there was uncertainty around the midfielder’s future as his contract was expiring on June 30th. Earlier that month, he signed an extension until the end of this season.

On August 15th, Sport Witness covered a report from Colombia explaining that Jefferson Lerma has signed a new contract until 2028.

The UK media have also backed it up while there’s no confirmation yet from Crystal Palace.

Pierre Sage has left the Colombia international out of the Europa League squad for the group stage. Having ‘received the unexpected news’, he’s now considering his future at Selhurst Park.

Turkey an option for Crystal Palace man 

Jefferson Lerma is unhappy to miss out on the European football and is not certain that he will continue at Crystal Palace.

He moved to England when AFC Bournemouth signed him from Levante UD in 2018. Five years later, he joined the Eagles on a free transfer.

He had options of moving back to La Liga in the summer. However, that’s not possible now as the Spanish window closed on Tuesday. Beşiktaş remain an option and the South American has to rush because the window in Turkey closes later today.

The midfielder has already seen his compatriot, Daniel Muñoz, leave Crystal Palace for Nottingham Forest.

Pierre Sage’s decision to leave him out of the Europa League squad now puts Lerma’s ‘future under the microscope’.

The outlet states: ‘It doesn’t mean the Colombian will automatically leave Crystal Palace, but the precedent set by Daniel Muñoz and what happened with the Europa League situation suggests that anything could happen.’

Sage didn’t include him in the squad in the league defeat to Everton and Lerma was an unused substitute against Manchester City. This, coupled with the European omission, are signs Lerma may not have a key role under the current manager.
