West Ham hesitate over selling player – January move still on the cards
by Pedro Reinert · Sport WitnessWest Ham continue to track Sporting’s interest in Luis Guilherme, with A Bola reporting that the winger remains on the Portuguese club’s shortlist ahead of January.
From a Premier League angle, nothing has moved to a final stage, and West Ham’s position still drives the talks.
The report says Sporting have not dropped Luis Guilherme despite recent complications. The Lisbon club are reviewing whether a permanent deal makes sense, as they try to cover attacking absences caused by injuries and international duty. Even so, negotiations remain challenging.
As we covered earlier, Sporting want a permanent transfer in the region of €15m to €18m. West Ham prefer a loan structure and still back the player’s long-term potential. The Hammers signed him from Palmeiras for around €23m in July 2024.
That difference explains the slow progress. Still, A Bola underline that talks continue. They also note that signing Luis Guilherme would not stop Sporting from adding another winger in the same window. For West Ham, this shows that Sporting see him as part of a wider plan, not a quick fix.
The outlet adds another detail. The player’s current market value stands at roughly €10m, well below Sporting’s proposed figures. That gap adds pressure to the discussions.
For now, West Ham keep control. Sporting remain interested, but the deal structure will decide whether a January exit happens or if talks roll on.
