Player waiting to start direct negotiations with Newcastle United – Future ‘at mercy’ of Magpies

by · Sport Witness

Newcastle United‘s Odysseas Vlachodimos is awaiting developments to make a decision on his future.

Last summer, the Premier League side let the goalkeeper join Sevilla on loan and he has enjoyed regular minutes.

The Newcastle United man’s performances have convinced the La Liga side to extend his stay.

Last month, Sevilla sporting director Antonio Cordón said the 31-year-old intends to continue after this season.

Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Eddie Howe’s side want €10m, deemed excessive for the Andalusian club.

What Newcastle United man wants

Estadio Deportivo now again points out Antonio Cordón indicating Odysseas Vlachodimos’ desire to stay. For Sevilla, the ‘circumstances aren’t ideal’ as there’s no purchase option or obligation as part of the loan deal.

Sevilla are happy with the Greece international and he’s prioritising extending his stay. His agent already made trips to Spain to hold talks with the La Liga side, but the stopper won’t make the final decision on his future until the end of this season.

Sources close to the operation have information Estadio that the Magpies owned player is ‘clear about his priorities’.

He wants to find out where the Spanish club play next season. They are two points above the relegation zone in the 15th spot, will finish this season.

If Sevilla continue in the top flight, he ‘will begin more direct discussions’ with Newcastle United to push for a move.

The player is now ‘at the mercy’ of the Premier League side, who have to make a decision on his future.

Meanwhile, Sevilla are already looking at other options in the market. On Thursday, Sport Witness relayed news they are considering signing Liverpool youngster Ármin Pécsi.

Our take: Sevilla stay complicated

The Andalusian club’s financial situation is unlikely to improve until there’s a change of ownership.

If that doesn’t happen, Odysseas Vlachodimos joining them permanently remains highly unlikely as Sevilla won’t be able to meet Newcastle United’s request.

The only possibility is if the stopper remains firm that he wants to extend his stay in Spain. If not, it remains a complex operation for Sevilla even with La Liga stay.
