‘Monster bid’ – Crystal Palace submit offer to sign Liverpool target keen on PL move
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessCrystal Palace have joined Liverpool in the chase for Club Brugge’s Joel Ordóñez.
That’s according to Het Laatste Nieuws, who cover the latest on both Crystal Palace and Liverpool.
The Ecuador international has already expressed his desire to move to the Premier League at some stage in his career.
Earlier this month, claims from Ecuador reported he’ll join Liverpool in the winter market. This was quickly dismissed in Belgium.
HLN now claim Arne Slot’s side have shown interest in the centre-back. Liverpool would have not made advances so far to sign him in this window.
Crystal Palace, on the other hand, have made concrete moves to bring the 21-year-old to Selhurst Park immediately.
The newspaper insists the Jupiler Pro League side could have earned around €100m from player sales in this window. A large chunk of this would have come from Oliver Glasner’s side.
Crystal Palace make big offer
HLN state the Eagles submitted a ‘monstrous bid’ to take the defender away from the Belgium club.
Their most expensive departure is at €37.5m, from Charles De Ketelaere’s sale to AC Milan in August 2022. The €40m bid from Crystal Palace would have made Ordóñez Club Brugge’s new record sale.
The Eagles saw Marc Guéhi, previously pursued by Liverpool, leave them for Manchester City last month.
In need of a new centre-back, Crystal Palace shifted their focus to the South American. The report claims Glasner’s side have shown willingness to go to great lengths to try and sign him.
Their efforts haven’t been successful as Club Brugge have refused to sanction a move midway through the season. HLN say the same is also applicable for Christos Tzolis, who was desired by Crystal Palace last summer.
The window closes later today, and the London club have less than 24 hours to find a new centre-back.
