“We talk a lot” – Bergvall reveals Frank message to Tottenham, delighted after “dream” realised

Lucas Bergvall made his Champions League debut in Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-0 win over Villarreal on Tuesday.

The Sweden international played the full 90 minutes at home and was awarded the Player of the Match for his impressive performance, days after he starred for Tottenham in their 3-0 league win over West Ham United.

After the match, the midfielder spoke to Sweden’s Aftonbladet to express his delight over playing his first Champions League tie and fulfilling his long-term dream in the process.

“It’s a dream I’ve had since I was little. An incredible feeling, to also do it at home and take three points. Fantastic,” he said.

The 19-year-old arrived at the north London from Swedish side Djurgården in the summer of 2024 and was part of their Europa League winning squad last season.

Despite their success in Europe’s second tier competition, Spurs parted ways with Ange Postecoglou and appointed Thomas Frank as his successor in the summer.

Tottenham have enjoyed a good start under the former Brentford manager, winning four of their five games and conceding only one goal, which came their league defeat to AFC Bournemouth.

On Tuesday, Villarreal failed to register even a single shot on target against the Premier League club. The young Swede has revealed Frank’s message to the Spurs players.

“We talk a lot about having a ‘keep a clean sheet mentality’ and they didn’t have a single shot on target. So, we did a very good job,” Bergvall explained.
