Bayern Munich v Chelsea: ‘Bitter’ blow as player set to miss Champions League match

Chelsea will start their Champions League campaign with a trip to the Allianz Arena to face Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has concern over the left-back position for the clash against Chelsea as Raphaël Guerreiro has joined those in the German champions’ treatment room.

Bild report the 31-year-old will miss tomorrow’s match against Chelsea after suffering an injury in Bayern Munich’s 5-0 win over Hamburg SV on Saturday.

The 31-year-old came off the bench after the break but was replaced in the 63rd minute, and after the match, Kompany said the Portugal international underwent an MRI scan.

On Monday, Bayern Munich confirmed on their official website that Guerreiro has a “minor injury to his abdominal muscles” and “will take a break”. They provided no update on how long he’ll be on the sidelines.

Bild report the fullback ‘will definitely miss’ the Champions League clash against Chelsea tomorrow and the league match against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim later this weekend.

They add Guerreiro’s injury is ‘bitter’ for Kompany and Bayern because they are already without the left-back duo of Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito.

Guerreiro’s setback means the Bavarian club currently don’t have a recognised left-back in the squad, and Kompany has used right-back Josip Stanišić on the left side of the back four.
