Ruben Amorim positions for new job after Manchester United exit

by · Sport Witness

Ruben Amorim appears to be angling for his first job post Manchester United, by making it clear that he’s open to joining Benfica.

CM Esporte report that the former Manchester United manager appears ready to return to football this summer with his old club.

Available after Manchester United

Mais Sport report that Ruben Amorim is ‘available to coach’ Benfica should they want him. The coach is openly admitting to this possibility, should the job be available.

He will return to his former club but only if there is a ‘free seat’ at the club. He does not want to be the source destabilisation around Jose Mourinho at this moment in time.

But the 41-year-old wants it known that he is available. He’s been out of work since leaving Manchester United in January.

Although his goal is to continue abroad with a team with a ‘well defined project’, Amorim has told a close circle of friends that he would not refuse Benfica next season. But he does not want to be a source of disruption.

He also does not want to be the reason that Benfica do not stick with Mourinho next season. Thus, he will only talk to the Portuguese club if they approach him after Mourinho’s departure is made official.

Sporting stipulations

If he were to return to management, Ruben Amorim wants to have what he had at Sporting for six seasons. He wants total control over signings and all professional football.

That worked well in Lisbon as he won six major trophies at the club during his tenure. That saw him end the club’s 19-year league title drought and establish a dominant, record-breaking squad.

He was unable to replicate that at Manchester United but clearly wants a repeat of the set up if he is to return to Portugal with Benfica. For now, it appears he’s just putting the word out, making it clear that he’s available.
