“I’ve been made aware” – Player directly quizzed about Liverpool transfer links
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessAnderlecht’s Nilson Angulo has admitted he’s unaware of Liverpool’s interest in securing his services.
Friday’s edition of Gazet van Antwerpen has published an interview with the 22-year-old, where they specifically ask him about the Liverpool links.
The Ecuador international moved to Europe in 2022 when Anderlecht signed him from LDU Quito.
He initially started with the Belgian club’s reserves before getting opportunities with the senior team. The forward has scored eight goals and contributed 11 assists from 89 matches, of which five goals and eight assists are from this season.
Last month, claims from South America reported on Liverpool and Trabzonspor’s interest in Angulo. It was also explained the attacker is valued at €10m. Celta Vigo have been mentioned as another contender.
The newspaper put in to the youngster that the World Cup will be the perfect platform to showcase his qualities. This was said right after Gazet van Antwerpen specifically mentioned both Arne Slot’s side and the Spanish club.
When responding to that, the South American says he hasn’t heard from his agent about Liverpool or Celta.
“I have been made aware of articles about Celta Vigo and Liverpool. As long as my agent doesn’t say anything, I know it’s not true. I am 100% focused on Anderlecht. I want to give this club something back for all the patience they’ve had with me,” he said.
On next summer’s World Cup, Angulo explained: “Of course, I’m looking forward to the World Cup. There could be 150,000 Ecuadorian supporters there, and who knows, we might even play against Belgium later in the tournament. That would be great. Ecuador has a good team, and I’ve played some good international matches.”
Three months ago, the player extended his contract at Anderlecht until 2029.
