Spors and Lederer add name to Southampton shortlist – Initial contact made, wouldn’t cost much
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessSouthampton have added Heidenheim winger Leo Scienza to their transfer shortlist and made initial contact about him.
That’s according to journalist Patrick Berger, who reports that Southampton sporting director Johannes Spors and chief scout Tim Lederer know the player well from their time in the Bundesliga.
Lederer was previously a squad planner at Hoffenheim, working in their U17s, U19s and second team while Spors has been a chief analyst and head of scouting at Hoffenheim, chief scout at RB Leipzig and then Hamburger SV.
It means the pair have an extensive knowledge of German football and that’s seen them take a look at the 26-year-old Brazilian.
He joined Heidenheim for €600,000 last summer and has six goals and eight assists in 37 games for the club to date. He had three goals and three assists in 25 games in the Bundesliga last season.
Berger reports that his current deal expires in 2027 and the German side would demand a single digit million fee for the winger.
Southampton have only made initial contact so far but he’s a player that Spors and Lederer know well and a name to watch until the end of the window for Southampton.
