Liverpool star’s entourage doubt club can match salary – Reds exit stalls over wages

by · Sport Witness

Liverpool’s Alisson has constantly been pushed as a target for Serie A clubs by the Italian media. The deal is now proving to be much more difficult than initially thought.

Earlier in March, the goalkeeper signed a new deal at Anfield which tied him down until the end of next season.

Temporarily, this silenced a lot of talk around his future. Soon enough, it grew once again as Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti appeared keen on reuniting with the Brazilian.

Last week, Sport Witness covered claims that the goalkeeper would actually be keen on a move back to his ex-Roma manager. Talks were held, with Juve also growing optimistic about the signing.

Now, it feels like the optimism has been replaced by pessimism and Liverpool could keep Alisson.

Multiple discussions held for Alisson

Today, TuttoSport make it clear that doubts are rising in Turin about signing the 33-year-old.

Ideally, Spalletti would want Alisson at the club. In fact, he sees him as a dream target, with Mattia Perin and Michele Di Gregorio likely to depart the Old Lady in the summer.

Juve have tried to satisfy the manager’s demands, holding talks with Alisson’s entourage. They have now realised that the deal is more complicated than initially thought.

Alisson earns €8m per season and would demand a significant signing-on fee. Agent fees will also be involved, with Liverpool themselves demanding about €15m to let the Brazilian depart.

The goalkeeper’s entourage held multiple discussions with Juve and now feel a move to Turin will be very difficult. Talks were also held with other Serie A clubs but scepticism filtered from those conversations as well.

Our take: Liverpool won’t mind this

Alisson may be 33 and he has been out of action in the last few weeks, but he still did well earlier in the campaign.

Giorgi Mamardashvili hasn’t disappointed anyone either but his candidacy as the first-choice remains unknown. Alisson will only help him grow and his presence will make sure the Georgian isn’t thrown into the deep end next season.

Moreover, Liverpool are in no need to provide discounts to let Alisson depart. He has previously been linked with Saudi clubs, who will be able to afford his wage and the Reds’ demands. If a move to Juve doesn’t go through, it won’t be the end of the world.
