Aston Villa not the only ones celebrating Duran fee – Former club set for big pay-off
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessAston Villa are not the only ones celebrating the €77m they’re set to receive from Al-Nassr for Jhon Durán, as former club Envigado are also set to benefit.
That’s according to journalist Julian Capera, who reports that the Colombian club will receive nearly €2m thanks to FIFA’s solidarity payments.
Durán is on the verge of joining the Saudi Arabian club in a move from Aston Villa after the two clubs struck an agreement for the striker yesterday.
He is believed to be finalising the deal today before heading out to Saudi Arabia and joining Cristiano Ronaldo’s side.
While that will be a blow to Aston Villa at this stage of the season, the deal has been presented as one they cannot turn down. Indeed, Unai Emery insisted last night that it was good money for the club and that was the crux of the matter.
It won’t be just Aston Villa benefitting financially though. Capera reports that Durán’s former club Envigado are also set for a payday.
According to him they will receive around 2.5% of the Duran deal via FIFA’s solidarity scheme, which looks to reward clubs who trained players earlier in their careers. The Antioquia team had Durán between the ages of 12 and 18.
As such they will receive a 2.5% cut of this transfer and that will see them pocket around €2m in fees.
That may not sound like much but for a club whose record transfer departure is Yaser Asprilla’s €3m move to Watford in 2021, it certainly is. In fact, the fee even trumps the €1.7m they received for Durán when he moved to Chicago Fire in the same year.
