“Very soon” – Director reveals Arsenal to decide on Gunners youngster’s transfer

by · Sport Witness

Last September, Arsenal allowed Lucas Nygaard to join Brabrand IF on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old came up through the ranks of FC Nordsjælland’s youth system but didn’t get to make his debut for their senior team.

In January 2024, FC Nordsjælland released him and he was without a club until Arsenal signed him in July 2024.

Last June, the goalkeeper said he was in talks with the Premier League side over going out on loan and three months later, he secured a loan move to Brabrand IF.

Andreas Rasch-Christensen, the second division Danish club’s sporting director, explained how his side secured his services on a temporary deal.

The stopper’s league stats this season are as follows:

  • Appearances: 7
  • Total minutes: 585
  • Clean sheets: 1
  • Goals conceded: 14

Arsenal officials travelling to Denmark

Tipsbladet now report Gunners’ officials will soon make a trip to Denmark to make a decision on Lucas Nygaard’s future after this season.

The loan stay with the Danish club is until the end of this season, without an option or obligation to buy.

Mikel Arteta’s side have already visited him twice in Denmark and will soon make the third trip. Brabrand IF sporting director Andreas Rasch-Christensen confirms this during an interview with Tipsbladet.

“The plan is for them to visit very soon. They are following him and have a regular dialogue with our goalkeeping coach and staff in relation to, I suppose, finding out what their plans with him should be,” he said.

On the Denmark U19 international’s loan spell so far, Rasch-Christensen explained: “Lucas has done well in many ways. First and foremost, he fits in really well as a person, and he thrives. The cooperation has been sensible, and I also think he has managed to develop in the right direction.”

The official remains open to extending the Arsenal man’s temporary spell after this season but is unsure of the Gunners’ plans.

“We are really happy to have him here, and I will certainly be open to a dialogue about further progress. I think he is doing well and would like to extend such a loan,” he added.

“Whether that’s realistic remains to be seen. It hasn’t been discussed with Arsenal yet, but I could imagine that Arsenal has some plans for him. In any case, we’re certainly not uninterested.”

Our take: Arsenal to sanction another loan

Barring a surprise twist, Mikel Arteta won’t include Lucas Nygaard in his plans at Arsenal next season.

Therefore, a loan move would be beneficial for the stopper. It’s unclear whether the north London club plan to send keeping him or send him on loan to Brabrand IF or another club.
