Radrizzani reveals Newcastle United and Tottenham interest in Leeds United player
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessAndrea Radrizzani, who sold Leeds United in 2023, has revealed Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur interest in Jack Harrison.
The Englishman is on his way to join Fiorentina in the winter market, swapping one relegation battle for another. Earlier on Tuesday, we covered claims from Italy about the advances made by the Serie A side to sign him.
Fiorentina have reached an agreement in principle with Daniel Farke’s side. This operation is now in the latter stages and there’s confidence La Viola will soon complete it.
Firenze Viola have published a detailed interview with Radrizzani to discuss the 29-year-old winger.
The Italian businessman said he’s not a fan of interviews but is happy to make an exception for the Leeds United player. During the chat, he talked about Newcastle United and Tottenham interest.
Leeds United initially signed Harrison on loan from Manchester City in 2018. He was on loan for three years before they made his stay permanent in 2021. Radrizzani was the owner at Elland Road when the Premier League side signed the player, both on loan and permanently.
The Whites returned to the Premier League in 2020. Harrison enjoyed a good run in his first two seasons in the top division with Leeds United. It’s possible this caught Newcastle United and Tottenham attention.
Radrizzani mentioned the Magpies and Spurs when Firenze Viola asked whether it was difficult for him to retain Harrison.
“We’ve had several top-tier clubs interested in him for a long time. Newcastle were very close, but Tottenham, under Antonio Conte, also seriously considered him,” he said.
“For us, however, it was difficult to sacrifice him because he’s always been a useful player, capable of playing on both flanks, always available, and almost never injured. This is also a very important aspect: his athleticism and physical condition are solid, and that’s a really positive trait.”
