Over for Thomas Frank at this level – Danish explanation why Tottenham may be last

Udine, Italy – August 13, 2025: Thomas Frank of Tottenham seen in action during the UEFA Super Cup 2025 between Paris Saint-Germain FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC at the Friuli Bluenergy Stadium in Udine

Thomas Frank’s time at Tottenham Hotspur may be his last at the top level after it came to an end on Wednesday.

That’s according to Jan Mølby, via Tipsbladet. He believes that Frank’s miserable time at Tottenham could be the last chance he gets for a truly big job.

Tottenham sacked the Danish coach on Wednesday morning following the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at home on Tuesday evening. That was their 14th defeat of the season in all competitions this season.

Spurs had appointed the 52-year-old in the summer to steady the ship. The club had decided to change despite Ange Postecoglou’s success in the Europa League last season.

The belief was that Frank was ready for a step up after impressing at Brentford. He enjoyed a transformative seven-year tenure at the Bees, to say the least. He was a key part in turning them from a Championship side into an established Premier League outfit.

How Tottenham gradually lost patience

Instead, a miserable eight-month spell at Tottenham followed. His time in charge was marked by a severe decline, particularly in the Premier League. Tottenham are now just five points clear of the relegation zone in 16th.

Frank has now been dismissed amid growing fan unrest. And Mølby thinks it could be the last big job of his career as a result.

“There is no doubt that there are more jobs for Thomas Frank, but there are probably no more jobs of this size as Tottenham,” he said.

“And of course there will also be people who think that he did well at Brentford but was a bit protected by the way they do things.

“I actually think in many ways that this has as much to do with Tottenham as it does with Thomas Frank. That it is so difficult to be successful at Tottenham as a manager. But what big jobs are left for Thomas Frank. I doubt that a bit.”

Where next for Frank?

The question of where next for Frank will certainly be an interesting one moving forwards. His time at Tottenham does not make for pretty reading from any angle.

He leaves them without a win in 2026 and with just two in their final 17 Premier League games under him. His final run of eight games without a win in the league is also the club’s worst since 2008.

The Dane, personally, has the lowest win rate and points per game of any manager at a ‘Big Six’ club in the modern Premier League era too. That’s worse than Ruben Amorim and Graham Potter.

Those are numbers, and records, which suggest such a big job isn’t for him. It will certainly make any suitors, perhaps in the summer, think twice. Few would have predicted that when he left Brentford, including Frank himself.
