Leicester City reach ‘agreement in principle’ – Following Birmingham City transfer route

by · Sport Witness

Leicester City have reached an agreement in principle to sign 2025’s Allsvenskan top scorer, whilst Birmingham City are in the process of trying to secure the other one.

To explain, the Swedish season runs on a different calendar. The Allsvenskan starts in late March or early April and runs until November, partly due to the harsh winters in the country.

During the 2025 season, the two men shared the title for scoring the most goals in the division. Djurgårdens IF’s 21-year-old August Priske scored 18 goals from 27 matches. Ibrahim Diabate, of GAIS, scored 18 goals and that brought the 26-year-old attention.

Aftonbladet, one of Sweden’s major newspapers, reports Leicester City have reached an agreement in principle with GAIS. Diabate isn’t the only option they’re looking at for a new striker in January,

The Foxes are working on multiple fronts and want to present their options to manager Marti Cifuentes. He can then choose which one he feels will help Leicester City the most.

GAIS being very open to Leicester City

Aftonbladet explain the transfer could be a loan or a permanent sale, and GAIS appear quite open to various options. There’s talk of interest from other clubs, with Wrexham the only one mentioned.

That competition for Leicester City can’t be very strong, given GAIS are letting them agree a deal on a just-in-case basis. Birmingham City are certainly finding it harder with Djurgårdens IF for Priske.

Leicester City are currently 13th in the Championship and lost 2-1 to leaders Coventry City on Saturday. That puts them a place ahead of Midlands rivals Birmingham City, with both still having a chance of the playoffs.

Should the pair secure their own Allsvenskan’s top scorers for the second half of the Championship season, there can be a race to see who does better. In Sweden, there’s perhaps more excitement around August Priske due to his younger age.
