Celtic manager target “will replace Arne Slot at Liverpool” – Big backing from old boss
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessCeltic manager target Nicky Hayen “will replace Arne Slot at Liverpool” in two years’ time. That’s according to the man who hired him at Haverfordwest.
Sport have an interview with him today, in which he heaps praise on the Celtic linked manager for his work so far.
Hayen is one of the hottest managerial prospects in Europe thanks to the work he’s been doing at Club Brugge. He took over the Belgian side in March 2024, leading them to the title before securing the job permanently in June the same year.
He currently boasts a 62.11%-win record at the club, with just 17 losses in 95 games. His record in 59 wins, 19 draws and 17 losses to date. Hayen also led them to the knockout stages of the Champions League last season, winning five of ten games with wins over the likes of Aston Villa and Sporting Club de Portugal.
It was eventually Villa who knocked them out, but not before they had seen off Europa League champions Atalanta in impressive fashion.
His work has not gone unnoticed either. Reports over the last week have indicated that he is on Celtic’s list to replace Brendan Rodgers at Celtic Park. In fact, a report at the end of October made it clear Celtic had made contact with him.
Edwards, his former employer, would certainly recommend him. In fact, he believes Hayen could end up at Liverpool.
“He presented his project to us, and we simply wanted to hear every word he said,” he said.
“The guy was a workaholic. You could see it in the impact he had on the players. He dedicated his time to getting to know them. He was very methodical. He asked about their well-being; he was also concerned about the mental aspect of the game.
“He was very calm. He wasn’t one of those who shouted in the locker room; he spoke and was heard. Despite not being the loudest or most aggressive, he had a special aura. He’s a family man, doesn’t drink, and doesn’t use social media. He simply focuses on his work.”
“I think Nicky Hayen will replace Arne Slot as Liverpool manager within two years.”
