Manchester United player on how he doesn’t let Keane and Scholes nonsense bother him

by · Sport Witness

Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens remains unfazed by criticism from Old Trafford legends like Roy Keane and Paul Scholes and is confident of his own ability.

The Belgium international joined the Premier League side from Royal Antwerp on last summer’s deadline day.

He made his Manchester United debut in October and has been their No.1 since then. Last season, the stopper kept eight clean sheets and conceded 41 goals.

Lammens’ form for the Red Devils helped him make debut for Belgium in November and also represent them at the World Cup.

This season, his only sheet came in the Champions League win over Sabah. In the league, he has conceded eight goals from six matches.

Manchester United man won’t focus on criticism

Roy Keane was unhappy with Senne Lammens’ behaviour after Manchester United’s derby defeat to Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Former Red Devils midfielder Paul Scholes questioned whether he’s the right candidate to be the club’s long-term No.1. He said the ‘jury’s still out’ on the Belgian.

New manager Mark van Bommel has started him in the two UEFA Nations League matches in September, after Thibaut Courtois’ temporary withdrawal. He will start against Turkey later today, and today’s edition of Het Belang van Limburg have relayed his comments.

“We haven’t talked about it [Courtois] much. I think it is important to focus on the current matches and the players who are here. I think I am the number 1 now. It is important that I perform well and am ready immediately. I cannot control what the future holds. But I can control my performances,” he said.

Lammens is under magnifying-glass at Manchester United, and HBVL says legends like Keane and Scholes don’t hold back when sharing their views.

On this subject, Lammens explained: “Playing for United hasn’t changed my character. You do have to be mentally strong and have self-confidence in the face of all those people expressing their opinions. I can imagine that isn’t easy for everyone. I love playing all those Premier League matches. Premier League, Nations League… It doesn’t feel any different.”

Right way to handle it

Senne Lammens’ comments show how he handles the media reaction, especially when it’s negative.

He has made sure and continues to do so that these reactions, especially from the former players, doesn’t impact him or his game.
