“He’s on the market” – Club confirm they’re trying to sign Newcastle United player

Newcastle United’s Antonio Cordero, also known as Antoñito, has clearly struggled during his loan spell at KVC Westerlo.

The winger has played 102 minutes from eight matches which includes just seven minutes since September. The Magpies have decided to cut short his temporary stay at the Belgian club and send him elsewhere.

Last month, claims from Spain stated Deportivo de La Coruña want to sign the Newcastle United player on loan. However, Cádiz CF are expected to be his destination in the winter market.

Two days ago, we covered claims from Spain that the loan deal to take the 19-year-old to Cádiz is 99% done. It was also reported the negotiations between the parties were at an advanced stage.

Cádiz president Manuel Vizcaíno has now confirmed his side’s interest in the young attacker and Estadio Deportivo have relayed his comments.

“I can’t confirm that a deal is close because he belongs to another club. He’s a player who’s on the market. We’re interested in him, but deals can’t be announced until they’re finalised,” he said.

The Segunda División side want to be cautious over the arrival of the Spain U19 international in January.

“Your obligation is to try to anticipate the confirmation. Ours is to be prudent, because there are many parties involved, and we’re going to wait and see if he can ultimately join Cádiz. We are interested. If it doesn’t happen, we’ll move on and look for other options,” Vizcaíno explained.

Over at AS, they report only the signature is missing for the Newcastle United man to join the Spanish club. They will sign him on loan without an option or obligation to buy.

Cordero intends to join Cádiz as soon as possible in order to start training under Gaizka Garitano’s orders.
