Middlesbrough initiate contact for versatile player’s signing – Boro pursuing transfer
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessMiddlesbrough are among the clubs in chasing FC Augsburg’s Robin Fellhauer ahead of the summer transfer window.
Burnley first showed interest in the 28-year-old in the winter market and other English clubs, including Middlesbrough, have now joined the race.
He joined the Bundesliga side from SV Elversberg in June 2025 and has featured regularly so far this season.
Fellhauer prefers to play as a defensive midfielder. He’s operated in this position as well as at wingback for Augsburg, playing 2,364 minutes from 29 matches so far.
His Bundesliga stats are as follows:
- Appearances: 27
- Starts: 25
- Total minutes: 2,230
- Minutes per game: 83
- Duels won per game: 4.9
- Ball recovered per game: 3.6
Fellhauer’s performances have seen him attract the attention of Middlesbrough and other English clubs.
Middlesbrough keen on versatile player
Sky Deutschland now report Robin Fellhauer is attracting interest from England where the Clarets and Middlesbrough are mentioned.
Burnley looked at him in the last window, and it isn’t clear whether the German is still on their agenda. There are other clubs pursuing him, including Kim Hellberg’s side.
These teams have initiated contact, without the report specifying whether Middlesbrough contacted his camp, Augsburg or both. There’s also no mention whether the versatile player or his club are open to doing business with Boro or another club after this season.
Why Boro could be looking at the German
In the winter market, the Championship side allowed Abdoulaye Kanté to join AS Saint-Étienne on loan with an option to buy. Earlier this month, the defensive midfielder said he wants to join the Ligue 2 side permanently in the summer.
Hayden Hackney is currently the only recognised defensive midfielder at the Riverside Stadium. Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany that Borussia Dortmund are keen on taking him away from Middlesbrough.
With Kanté wanting to leave and BVB pushing for Hackney, Hellberg’s side may have to look for a new midfielder.
This is where Robin Fellhauer could be an option for after this season. The German has a contract until 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €3m. Boro may need more to convince FC Augsburg.
