West Ham United forward Callum Marshall has spoken to the German media about his first impressions at VfL Bochum.

Earlier this month the 21-year-old joined the Bundesliga 2 side on loan until the end of the season.

Speaking to Waz.de, the West Ham youngster was asked about the stadium atmosphere at Bochum and how it compared to London Stadium.

The youngster explained that with West Ham’s stadium being bigger, and having a running track, it was a different experience.

Marshall went on to say that because the fans are closer to you at the Ruhrstadion it helps them to get behind the team.

“Only real fans who love their club come to the stadium here. The Olympic Stadium in London, where West Ham plays, is much larger and more spacious with the running track. There is a different atmosphere. In Bochum, the stadium is narrow, you can make a lot of noise, and the fans do a fantastic job,” said the player.

The West Ham player was also asked how his move to Bochum came about following reported interest from other clubs

Marshall revealed Uwe Rösler was key in him signing for the German club after the former Manchester City star discussed his plans for the future.

“It was a difficult decision, but Uwe showed me that he really wanted me in his team. As a professional, you always want to play, but of course that’s even more true as a loan player. The coach has told me that he will stand behind me. That was decisive for me to come to Bochum,” explained the West Ham loanne.

The Northern Irishman was signed from Lindfield in 2022, and has made just one appearance for the East London club. This came as an 80th minute substitute in an FA Cup defeat against Bristol City in 2024.

During the last campaign he was loaned out to Huddersfield Town, scoring 10 goals in 46 games. The season before the young forward spent six months at West Bromwich Albion.

Marshall is contracted to West Ham until June 2027.
