Aston Villa and Tottenham target not seen as top player – English clubs ‘hot on heels’
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessMarcos Senesi has emerged as a target for Aston Villa and Tottenham in recent weeks. They are now being discouraged by the Italian media.
The Argentine is set to leave Bournemouth in the summer, as his contract at Vitality runs out at the end of the campaign. He has done well in the campaign, replacing the impact of Ilya Zabarnyi and Dean Huijsen quite well.
Sport Witness have covered Premier League interest in the 28-year-old, with TuttoSport previously having mentioned Juventus’ approach for him.
It was suggested that the player will make a key decision this week and is likely to end up in the Premier League.
Tuttomercatoweb now add details to Juve’s approach and go on to somewhat disrespect him.
Spalletti doesn’t have high opinion
The outlet make it clear that Aston Villa and Tottenham are ‘hot on heels’ of the Argentine. This has prompted the Bianconeri to now potentially pull out of the deal.
This is mainly because of competition but also because Luciano Spalletti doesn’t have a high opinion of the defender. He doesn’t see him as a top player and feels he won’t be able to match Bremer’s impact at the club.
The Italian feels Senesi would only be a viable target if Lloyd Kelly leaves, which is currently out of Juve’s plans.
Further mockery is aimed at the Bournemouth player through his decision to reject Italy. Roberto Mancini called him up to the Azzurri back in 2022 but Senesi made it clear he doesn’t relate to the country.
It appears this didn’t go down well in Italy, with Senesi now likely to stay in England.
Our take: Sour grapes for Juve
It feels like the Old Lady’s inability to strike a deal is making them low-key villanise the player. The truth is Senesi has previously been linked with a move to Italy, where clubs were keen. He can easily make it in Italy, where the back three systems will suit him quite a bit.
Aston Villa and Tottenham won’t mind that. Spurs, specifically, could lose Micky Van de Ven in the summer and Senesi is at the peak of his powers.
He has made a mark in the Premier League and signing him for free would be an incredible move.
