“Not useful” – West Ham player struggling for consistency, deal proving useless
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessWest Ham loanee Niclas Fullkrug has barely made a mark at AC Milan, despite scoring a goal against Lecce earlier in the season.
The German is yet to start even once in Serie A, having missed a crucial penalty against Pisa some weeks ago. This led to Milan dropping points against one of the worst sides in the division and they soon lost ground in the title race.
Since then, the striker has always played less than 30 minutes in every game.
Sport Witness have covered claims from Italy which cast doubts over the Rossoneri’s intentions to send him back to West Ham.
Now, question marks are rising about his suitability and whether can he really cut it at AC Milan.
Fullkrug lacking consistency
DAZN correspondent Tommaso Turci spoke to PianetaMilan about the striker.
He clarified that the Germany international needs to play more to find his best form. But that isn’t quite happening either.
“Honestly, I expected a bit more consistency from Fullkrug. He’s a player who needs to play to get into top form; he struggles to get to his best form in fits and starts.”
Turci believes Milan are yet to final decision about the loan deal from West Ham.
“I think the evaluations for him will be made at the end of the season.”
The journalist believes the 33-year-old isn’t really of use in the current setup under Max Allegri. He isn’t meant to play around 20 minutes in every game.
“He’s not a useful player if he comes on in the last 10/15 minutes, unless he’s there to hold up a few balls; rather, he should be the manoeuvring centre forward around whom the team can build We need to understand what kind of evaluations Milan and Massimiliano Allegri will make.”
Fullkrug should return to West Ham
The way things are going, staying at Milan in the long-term won’t even help the striker. The Rossoneri are looking at younger options for next season and Fullkrug probably needs another new club.
West Ham don’t have any use for him either and would be seeking his permanent exit. They paid over £25m to sign him permanently and will have to rely on his agent to find another club.
That is how they had ironed out a deal to Milan and now they should be laying the foundations of another move.
