Xabi Alonso could sell Chelsea player for big fee – Madrid nightmare teaches him lesson

by · Sport Witness

Barcelona have Chelsea‘s João Pedro on their short list for the summer.

On May 6th, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain of Barcelona interest in the 24-year-old.

Last Friday, Barcelona sporting director Deco had a meeting with the Chelsea star’s agent in London.

The same source stated he could watch the striker in the FA Cup final, which the Blues lost to Manchester City on Saturday.

A day later, the west London club confirmed the appointed off Xabi Alonso as their new manager.

Barcelona seduces Chelsea man

Monday’s edition of AS reports on Deco’s meeting with the Brazil international’s agent in London last Thursday.

During this meeting, Barcelona found out the Camp Nou move seduces João Pedro, who is keen on joining them. The other message was the operation is almost impossible because of the high price, and the Club World Cup winners don’t want to sell.

Both Deco and the La Liga winners now have to wait, especially because of Xabi Alonso’s appointment. He has to make a decision on whether or not to hold on to the frontman.

If the new manager decides to retain Pedro, the operation will become more complicated for Barcelona. On the other hand, Chelsea could sell him for a high price if Alonso were to sanction a move.

The manager returned to management since leaving Real Madrid in January. He had a disappointing spell with Los Blancos, where he also had a deal with player issues.

In order to avoid the Real Madrid nightmare at Chelsea, AS believe the coach could let Pedro leave as he doesn’t want to have disgruntled players in his squad. Alonso has been stung by player power at Madrid and will want everyone pulling in the same direction.

Julián Álvarez is Barcelona’s main target but Atlético Madrid are refusing to sell him to a direct rival. Therefore, the focus seems to be on the former Watford man, but it won’t be easy to take him away from Chelsea.

Meanwhile, WinWin report Barcelona and Real Madrid are closely monitoring Chelsea youngster Ibrahim Rabbaj. His agent informed them the two La Liga giants’ scouts are keeping an eye on the 17-year-old.

Sport relay that and add both Barca and Real Madrid could make approaches when he turns 18 years of age in January 2027.

Pedro’s stats, contract and value

In his debut season at Chelsea, João Pedro managed 20 goals and nine assists from 49 matches.

He has a contract until 2033, and Transfermarkt value the Brazilian at €75m, the highest of his career.

The long contract puts the Club World Cup winners in a comfortable position when dealing with any potential transfer negotiations.
