Bournemouth deal for Juanlu: More details from Spain on contract, travel and clauses

Bournemouth are on the verge of announcing the signing of Juanlu Sánchez from Sevilla. Sunday afternoon has brought further details from Spain on how the transfer will work.

The Premier League club have agreed a deal worth €11m (£9.5m) plus a further €2m (£1.7m) in add-ons for the 22-year-old. The move is now only awaiting the final formalities before becoming official.

Spanish reports have now shed more light on what happens next and some of the terms surrounding the agreement.

Four-year contract and imminent departure

According to Diario de Sevilla, Juanlu Sánchez will sign a four-year contract with Bournemouth. This will happen once the remaining paperwork is completed.

The defender is currently with Sevilla at their pre-season training camp in Garderen, the Netherlands. However, he is expected to leave the squad in the coming hours. He will say goodbye to his teammates before travelling to England to complete the transfer.

Although Juanlu was named on the bench for Sunday’s friendly against Utrecht, Diario de Sevilla explains he was not expected to play, meaning his final appearance for Sevilla likely came in the friendly against Juventud de Torremolinos last month.

Future sale clause and Sevilla benefit

The Spanish reports also explain that Sevilla have negotiated a sell-on clause as part of the agreement.

There is, however, some disagreement over the exact percentage. Diario de Sevilla reports only that Sevilla will retain a share of any future sale. On the other hand, EFE states that figure is 20%. MARCA, meanwhile, claims it is closer to 10%.

MARCA also adds that Juanlu will double his salary by moving to Bournemouth.

Another detail emerging from Spain is that Sevilla view the deal as particularly valuable because Juanlu came through the club’s academy, meaning the transfer will generate almost pure profit under accounting rules.

Diario de Sevilla also reports the €2m (£1.7m) in bonuses are tied to relatively straightforward objectives, making it likely that Bournemouth will eventually pay close to the full package if the defender settles quickly on the south coast.
