Southampton set to buy player – Summer deal on platter for Saints

by · Sport Witness

Southampton are ‘satisfied’ with goalkeeper Daniel Peretz’s performances in the Championship.

That’s according to Kicker, who cover Southampton’s plan for the 25-year-old beyond this season.

In January, he arrived at St Mary’s from Bayern Munich on loan with an option to buy. Southampton or the Bundesliga winners haven’t confirmed the purchase clause fee.

Gavin Bazunu started as the first-choice stopper this season. He kept three clean sheets and conceded 28 goals from 19 matches and joined Stoke City on loan in the winter market.

Alex McCarthy also played 10 matches in the first half of the season and had three clean sheets and let 12 goals in.

Southampton weren’t satisfied with either and decided to bet on the Israel international.

Peretz starring for Southampton

Daniel Peretz made his debut in Southampton’s 2-1 league loss to Hull City in January and that’s his only defeat with Tonda Eckert’s side so far.

Former Bayern Munich star Lothar Matthäus earlier said the goalkeeper has no future in Munich. That matters given he’s still a big voice in German football and tends to know what’s going on at the Bundesliga club.

Peretz’s displays have pleased Southampton, so much so that they are considering making his stay permanent. Kicker mention this in a detailed report focusing on the German club’s plans for their goalkeepers.

Among these are Peretz and Alexander Nübel, currently out on loan at Southampton and VfB Stuttgart, and Vincent Kompany’s side plan to sell both.

Bayern Munich’s stance makes the path clear for the Championship side to buy him in the summer.

Kicker, however, make no mention of the details of the purchase clause, and 4-4-2 state it’s set at €8m.

Stopper’s stats and agent info

Bayern Munich signed Daniel Peretz from Maccabi Tel Aviv for €5m in 2023. He couldn’t get an opportunity at the Allianz Arena, where Manuel Neuer has been No.1 for more than a decade.

He played seven matches for the German giants, let in seven goals and kept two clean sheets. They sent him on loan to Hamburg SV in July 2025. This move turned out to be disastrous as the goalkeeper made two DFB-Pokal appearances.

Bayern Munich weren’t pleased and ended his spell at Hamburg, which allowed them to send him to the Saints. Not only did his situation improve, but his performances also started to get better.

Peretz has five clean sheets and has conceded 11 goals from 12 matches for Southampton.

Transfermarkt still value him at just €2m, which hasn’t changed since he moved to Hamburg. The highest level they had him at was €5m, when he moved to Bayern Munich.

BMS Sportconsulting GmbH represents Peretz and the majority of their clients are now playing in Germany.
