“We’re not listening” – Club trying to hold off Sunderland transfer approach

by · Sport Witness

Sunderland added Nilson Angulo and Jocelin Ta Bi to their squad to improve their attack in the winter market.

Prior to Angulo’s arrival at the Stadium of Light from Anderlecht, Sunderland looked at CA Osasuna’s Víctor Muñoz.

In fact, the Black Cats made multiple bids to convince the La Liga side to sanction the left winger’s sale.

The Premier League side first offered €20m and raised it to €25m plus Eliezer Mayenda on loan.

On February 14th, Osasuna sporting director Braulio Vázquez said his side didn’t listen to Sunderland’s attempts to sign Muñoz. Later that month, the official revealed the player also didn’t want to leave Osasuna for Régis Le Bris’ side in January.

Sunderland seem still keen

Friday’s edition of AS again points out Sunderland’s €25m proposal that clearly didn’t end up convincing CA Osasuna.

The Black Cats couldn’t match his €40m release clause but don’t seem to be willing to give up yet.

That’s because the newspaper state several Premier League sides are looking at him and Sunderland get a mention.

It’s claimed Régis Le Bris’ side are the latest club to show interest in Víctor Muñoz, indicating they have revived their interest.

Either way, the English club still need to offer €40m to activate his clause, and without that there won’t be any deal.

Osasuna sporting director Braulio Vázquez again made this abundantly clear and AS have relayed his comments.

“We’re not listening, we’re sticking to the clause,” he said.

Real Madrid buyback clause

The La Liga side signed Víctor Muñoz from Real Madrid for €8m in July 2025. Los Blancos retain a buyback option and a 50% sell-on clause.

“Real Madrid have a three-year buy-back option that’s already agreed upon. What we’re doing is enjoying Víctor until the end of the season,” Vázquez explained.

“Many people criticised us for signing such a young player with so few minutes in La Liga. Now they’re asking us why we didn’t buy him outright. We accepted the terms Real Madrid set. Víctor made the right decision coming here, and so did we.”

Our take: Sunderland need €40m for signing

Osasuna won’t entertain any offers below €40m for Víctor Muñoz.

Therefore, the Black Cats have no option but to pay this figure and also convince him to secure his services.

The attacker managed six goals and five assists from 34 matches this season.
