Ipswich Town transfer scouting in La Liga – Main target named for Championship club
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessIpswich Town had a scout in Bilbao this week to watch Osasuna duo Víctor Muñoz and Flavien Enzo Boyomo.
Diario de Noticias report the Championship club have an interest in both players ahead of their potential return to the Premier League.
Premier League interest
According to the newspaper, scouts from various Premier League clubs were in the stands at San Mamés yesterday to watch Víctor Muñoz and Flavien Enzo Boyomo in action.
Scouts reportedly told the newspaper that the two Osasuna players are “interesting” for the Premier League market.
Championship club Ipswich Town are particularly interested in Flavien Enzo Boyomo.
The Tractor Boys will reportedly consider targeting the 24-year-old if, or when, they are promoted to the Premier League. The centre-back is currently rated at €20m by Transfermarkt but his contract includes a €25m release clause.
Diario de Noticias report that he is a target for several English clubs. They have all been monitoring him for some time.
Osasuna, though, have no interest in letting him go. They would seemingly want that release clause to be met, and even that would be reluctantly.
Whether Ipswich Town would pay that, is not mentioned.
Tricky battle for Muñoz
Víctor Muñoz is a more complicated potential target. He is jointly owned by Osasuna and Real Madrid. The latter have the option to buy him back for the next three seasons.
The belief in Spain is that Madrid will use that clause this summer and decide Muñoz’s future for themselves. If they don’t, his release clause remains €40m.
Osasuna are aware of growing Premier League interest in him and already turned down a €20m bid from Sunderland. But there is a chance someone will trigger his clause in the coming months.
In that eventuality, they would still only pocket €20m as 50% would go to Real Madrid. Either way, the battle for Muñoz’s signature is likely to be fierce.
Ipswich Town need Championship success
Ipswich’s interest in either player, but particularly Flavien Enzo Boyomo., is dependent on them making it back to the Premier League.
With Millwall currently second and three points ahead, but having played two games more, the race for the second automatic promotion spot is fierce. If not, it’s the play-offs and the lottery of that.
Thus, any moves for Boyomo or his teammate will be on hold. But the scouts are putting the legwork in ahead of a potential return to the top flight.
