Manchester City are one of the sides showing an interest in Burkina Faso youngster Mohamed Zongo.

That’s according to Africa Foot. They report that Manchester City are one of several sides showing an interest in the attacking midfielder.

Zongo was recently the standout performer for Burkina Faso at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar. He scored two goals and registered three assists in that tournament.

He was crucial as Burkina Faso’s run to the quarter finals, scoring the decisive goal in the 1-0 win over Germany in the round of 32. Even in the defeat to Italy, he was twice denied by the woodwork. He was also named man of the match on several occasions, including the round of 16 win over Uganda.

Africa Foot say his performances have earned the ‘young prodigy’ attention from around Europe. Several clubs have approached the Tenakourou Academy about him.

Manchester City, alongside Manchester United, Villarreal and Anderlecht were in talks with Tenakourou Academy as of Friday. All options are being considered at this moment in time. However, no agreement has been reached at this moment in time.

Manchester City, of course, have made it a matter of principle to scoop up talent from around the world. And it now seems they’re in the mix for Burkina Faso’s rising star.
