Marc Guehi Will Leave Crystal Palace Next Year – Coach Glasner Confirms
by Ernest Victor · Naija NewsCrystal Palace captain, Marc Guehi has told the club he will not renew his contract and intends to move on at the end of the season, manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed.
The 25-year-old defender’s deal runs out next summer, and despite Palace’s best efforts to keep him, Guehi has decided it is time for a new challenge.
“They offered Marc a new contract, but he said, ‘No, I want to make something different,’ and that’s normal,” Glasner said during his press briefing. “It’s how we can deal with this situation. (What) is the best way to get this next step done? And that’s all about how we are talking together.”
Palace are now faced with a major decision: sell their skipper in January or lose him for free next summer.
Guehi, who joined from Chelsea in 2021, has been a mainstay at Selhurst Park, making 167 appearances and consistently wore the club’s captain armband.
Naija News reports that Guehi was on the verge of a £35 million switch to Liverpool during the last transfer window after passing a medical, but Palace pulled the plug when their move for Brighton’s Igor Julio collapsed on deadline day.
This season, the centre-back has featured in all 12 of Palace’s matches across competitions, helping them sit sixth in the Premier League table.
Liverpool remain interested, but reports suggest Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich are all keeping tabs on him ahead of the winter transfer window.
Guehi’s performances have also cemented his place in Gareth Southgate’s England plans. He won his 26th cap in the 3-0 friendly win over Wales earlier this month and said there was “definitely an opportunity” to make the 2026 World Cup squad, even if he stays at Palace until his contract runs out.
