A Lot Of People Don’t Want Arsenal To Win EPL – Thierry Henry

by · Naija News

Former Arsenal player, Thierry Henry has said “a lot of people” do not want the Gunners to win the Premier League this season, despite the club’s strong push towards ending a 22-year wait for the title.

With seven matches remaining, Mikel Arteta’s side hold a nine-point lead over Manchester City and appear firmly on course to secure the trophy.

However, Henry believes the Gunners are not attracting widespread support from neutrals. Speaking on Monday Night Football, the former striker suggested that fans often favour teams perceived as underdogs.

“I wanted them (Liverpool) to win the league because I wanted Jamie (Carragher) to win the league, Stevie G (Steven Gerrard) to win the league,” Henry said.

“Whether I like Liverpool or not, you root for the underdog, the team that couldn’t do it, or failed to win the league. (But) A lot of people don’t want Arsenal to win the league.”

Attention has also turned to the emergence of teenage forward Max Dowman, who made history in the club’s recent 2-0 win over Everton.

The 16-year-old became the youngest scorer in Premier League history after coming off the bench. He first set up Viktor Gyokeres for the opening goal before scoring Arsenal’s second with a solo run.

Arteta has hinted that Dowman could feature again but warned against complacency.

“He did something very special in a rare moment,” Arteta said.

“What he did a few days ago is not important anymore. It’s about what happens next.”
