England Defender Marc Guehi Withdraws From Squad Ahead Of Final World Cup Qualifier

England’s preparations for their final 2026 World Cup qualifying match have been hit by an injury setback, with Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi withdrawing from the squad.

Marc Guehi, 25, will return to his club to continue treatment on a foot injury sustained during last week’s Conference League clash against AZ Alkmaar.

Guehi had already missed Palace’s goalless draw against Brighton on Sunday, sidelined by a heavy bone bruise that left him “unable to walk.” Despite this, he joined up with Thomas Tuchel’s squad earlier this week but will now miss England’s concluding qualifier in Albania.

The Three Lions maintained their perfect record on Thursday with a 2-0 win over Serbia, keeping them comfortably at the top of Group K. With seven wins from seven games, England have already secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Manager Tuchel will now prepare his 24-man squad for Sunday’s trip to Tirana without the Crystal Palace defender. The team is expected to rely on their depth in defence as they aim to finish the group stage unbeaten.

Guehi’s absence comes as a disappointment for both player and country, as he has been a key presence in England’s backline this season. The focus now shifts to his rehabilitation at the Palace.
