Arsène Wenger Names Contenders For 2025/26 Champions League Title Aside Arsenal
by Ernest Victor · Naija NewsFormer Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger believes Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain pose the biggest danger to his old club’s dream of winning the Champions League this season.
Arsène Wenger shared his thoughts after watching Arsenal brush aside Slavia Prague 3-0 on Tuesday night, with Bukayo Saka opening the scoring from the penalty spot and Mikel Merino netting twice in the second half to seal a commanding win.
Speaking on beIN Sports, the legendary manager said Bayern and PSG are the two non-English sides most likely to challenge for the European crown.
“I would say they’re the two teams who can win the Champions League this season, outside England,” Wenger said. “One of the other teams, of course, could be Real Madrid, but Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain, no one wonders in their league whether they will win their championship.
“Paris Saint-Germain will win the championship in France, and Bayern have already nearly won the championship in Germany, so their season, of course, will be in Europe.”
Wenger noted that both clubs have the advantage of focusing their energy on Europe, unlike the English teams who face a tougher domestic fight.
“They will have to fight against the five teams in the Premier League, which will be very interesting,” he added. “Paris Saint-Germain at the moment are not at their best, Real Madrid and Liverpool are fighting to be their best, then Bayern are in full power.”
Naija News reports that Bayern maintained their perfect record in the competition with a 2-1 win over PSG at the Parc des Princes. They are currently topping the league phase of the Champions League with three points above second-placed Arsenal.
