Kylian Mbappe Leaves France Camp, Returns To Madrid With Ankle Injury
by Ernest Victor · Naija NewsReal Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappe has pulled out of the France national team camp and returned to Madrid after developing inflammation in his right ankle, officials confirmed on Friday.
“Kylian Mbappé leaves France camp and returns to Madrid due to inflammation in his right ankle,” reported Fabrizio Romano. The severity of the injury has not been fully disclosed, and it is unclear whether it will affect his availability for Real Madrid’s upcoming matches.
Mbappe, 26, had just scored twice in France’s 4-0 win over Ukraine on Thursday, helping the 2018 World Cup champions secure a place in the 2026 tournament.
His brace also marked a personal milestone, taking his career goal tally to 400. Mbappé, however, shrugged off the achievement, saying he has bigger ambitions in football history.
France coach Didier Deschamps and Real Madrid’s medical team decided it was best for Mbappé to return to Madrid for scans, after the ankle continued to swell and cause discomfort. Sources have told ESPN there are no serious concerns about the injury, but Madrid’s staff will monitor his recovery closely.
Mbappé’s departure comes shortly after teammate Eduardo Camavinga also left the French camp with a minor muscle injury. Real Madrid face Elche in La Liga on November 23 and then travel to Athens to play Olympiacos in the Champions League on November 26, making the forward’s fitness a key priority.
France will continue their training camp without Mbappé, focusing on Sunday’s FIFA World Cup qualifier in Azerbaijan.
