Justine Madugu Eyes Dominant Win As Super Falcons Face Benin In WAFCON Qualifier
by Ernest Victor · Naija NewsSuper Falcons head coach, Justine Madugu, says his team is fully focused on the task ahead as they prepare to face the Amazons of the Benin Republic in Friday’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Lome.
The match, which will take place at the Stade de Kegue, is the first leg of the final qualifying round for the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco. The return leg is scheduled for next Tuesday at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta.
Nigeria, the nine-time African champions, are overwhelming favourites to advance, but Madugu insists the team is not taking their opponents lightly. Speaking to thenff.com, he expressed confidence that his players are ready to deliver a convincing performance.
“We have a team that will go out there and make us proud. Yes, we would have loved to have Jennifer (Echegini), but we do not, and we can only pray for her to recover quickly,” Madugu said.
He added, “On Friday, we will go out and play our game and seek the goals that will put us in a good stead ahead of the return leg.”
The Super Falcons wrapped up their final training sessions in Abuja before departing for Lome on Wednesday. Madugu is expected to field a strong lineup featuring a blend of experienced stars and emerging talents.
