Ademola Lookman has shared his delight after Atletico Madrid secured a place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, seeing off Tottenham Hotspur 7-5 on aggregate.

Naija News reports that the Spanish side were beaten 3-2 in the second leg in London on Wednesday night but progressed thanks to a commanding 5-2 win in the first leg.

Lookman played his part on the night, setting up Julian Alvarez for Atletico’s equaliser in the second leg, a moment that steadied the visitors after Spurs had taken control early on.

He took to social media shortly after the final whistle, posting: “Champions League Quarter Finals!!.”

Speaking after the match, Lookman highlighted the importance of the first-leg advantage in sealing qualification.

“We’re very happy to be in the next round. Every game is hard, and everyone knows the quality in this competition,” Lookman said.

“The five goals in the first leg have taken us through, and there are positives to take tonight, so into the next round we go.

“Spurs scored first, and it would have been easy to collapse, but we had the mentality to stay calm, stay in the game and get opportunities. It was nice to be back in London, I call it home.”

Attention now turns to a heavyweight last-eight clash with Barcelona, who advanced after a dominant display against Newcastle.

Lookman is already relishing the tie, describing it as one to savour.

“Barcelona will be a special, special game against another tough opponent,” he said. “We need to be ready for it and we’ll prepare in the right way. Let’s take it as it comes.”
