Ghana’s Abu Francis Suffers Horrific Broken Leg In Defeat To Japan
by Ernest Victor · Naija NewsToulouse midfielder Abu Francis endured a harrowing injury on Friday during Ghana’s friendly against Japan, a moment that silenced the Toyota Stadium and left both sets of players visibly shaken.
The 24-year-old collapsed after attempting to block a shot early in the second half. His ankle twisted sharply as he stretched toward the ball.
Several Black Stars players immediately waved for medical help, while others turned away in distress after catching a glimpse of the position of his leg.
Medical staff hurried onto the pitch and spent several minutes stabilising him before he was lifted onto a stretcher. Alidu Seidu came on to replace him, though the mood around the team had already shifted from competitive focus to concern for their colleague.
Francis had only just worked his way back into Ghana’s squad for the Japan and South Korea friendlies, having missed the World Cup qualifiers in September and October. The Right to Dream Academy product joined Toulouse in the summer following an impressive spell at Cercle Brugge.
Given how the injury occurred, early signs suggest he may be sidelined for a long period. Final confirmation will depend on scans and further medical checks.
Japan went on to secure a 2-0 win through goals from Takumi Minamino and Ritsu Doan. Ghana will now prepare for Tuesday’s meeting with South Korea.
