Tunisia’s head coach, Sami Trabelsi, has expressed deep respect for the Super Eagles of Nigeria as both nations get ready to face each other in the group stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Carthage Eagles were drawn in a tricky group that also includes Tanzania’s Taifa Stars and the Cranes of Uganda. Sami Trabelsi acknowledged that the Super Eagles will be one of the toughest opponents his side will encounter, describing the three-time African champions as one of the most consistent and gifted teams on the continent.

“Nigeria remains a continental powerhouse, with a vast pool of talent playing at top European clubs,” Trabelsi told CAFonline.

The Tunisian coach knows the quality and experience the Super Eagles bring to the tournament. Nigeria, who finished runners-up at the last AFCON, are once again among the favourites to go all the way in Morocco, boasting a squad packed with stars like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Alex Iwobi.

Trabelsi, however, will take confidence from Tunisia’s last encounter with Nigeria at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, when the North Africans secured a 1-0 win in the Round of 16.

That victory remains fresh in the minds of Tunisian fans, who believe their team can replicate that success. Their next meeting is scheduled to take place on December 27, in the 2025 AFCON.
