Padraig Harrington sharing the lead at US Senior Open

Padraig Harrington has taken a share of the overnight lead at the US Senior Open at Broadmoor Golf Club, Colorado.

The Dubliner shot three under on Thursday to tie for the lead alongside Australia's Mark Hensby.

The 53-year old and Hensby occupy the top spots, shooting a 67 but are closely followed by eight players on two under.

Harrington hit all four of his birdies on the front nine of the Colorado course, which lies nearly 2,000 metres above sea level.

This leads to an undulating course with some challenging greens.

His charge was halted slightly when he found the rough on the 15th to recover a bogey and lose the solo lead.

Speaking after the round he said: "I was four under through eight and probably could have been a little bit more.

"I three-putted nine. The back nine is hard, but I was still really feeling my way around that nine.

"I only played it once before. I was a little bit tentative in the lead. I suppose it's a little harder when you're leading and not knowing the course 100% like you would like to."

Harrington will definitely feel that it is easier to chase than to lead, but let's hope that the three-time major winner can add the US Senior Open trophy to his collection.
