Gavin Cromwell expects big Gold Cup run from Inothewayurthinkin against Galopin Des Champs

Gavin Cromwell expects a big run from Inothewayurthinkin in the Gold Cup - and believes the JP McManus-owned gelding can beat Galopin Des Champs.

However, the Meath trainer admits that Inothewayurthinkin may not run in the blue riband if the ground dries out too much.

Inothewayurthinkin was supplemented for the Gold Cup at a cost of £25,000 after showing up well behind Galopin Des Champs in the Irish Gold Cup and is currently disputing favouritism for the Randox Grand National.

He is one of two representatives for the Festival’s leading owner McManus, who also fields Emmet Mullins’ Corbetts Cross, winner of the National Hunt Chase at the meeting 12 months ago.

Inothewayurthinkin was impressive when winning the Kim Muir at Cheltenham last year when partnered by Derek O'Connor. McManus' retained rider Mark Walsh will be on board today.

"We supplemented him for the race with him being in great form at home," said William Hill ambassador Cromwell. "He’s come forward plenty from his run in the Irish Gold Cup where he was only seven lengths back from Galopin Des Champs.

"With a clear round of jumping, we really think he can make a race of it. I don’t even necessarily think that we need things to go wrong for Galopin Des Champs for us to beat him. He’s come forward plenty since the last day and I’m hoping he can put it up to the favourite.

"The only concern with him is the ground. We’re hoping it’ll be well-watered because if it dries out and it’s bordering on good being in the description then we may not run him."
