Cheltenham Festival tips for Gold Cup day: Robbie Power's predictions for all seven races

by · Irish Mirror

The Gold Cup looks like Galopin Des Champs' to lose as he aims to write his name in the Cheltenham Festival history books.

Only four horses have won the race three times or more and Galopin Des Champs is aiming to join Best Mate, Arkle, Cottage Rake and Golden Miller in the unique club.

But as we've seen this week, you can take nothing for granted at Cheltenham.

However, this is possibly the weakest of the three Gold Cups Galopin Des Champs has contested and he is in a different league to a number of today's opposition.

He was brilliant when winning the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown last month and is an absolute superstar.

I have a lot of respect for Banbridge, who could be the one to chase home the favourite.

The Triumph Hurdle kicks off the action on the final day of the Festival and although the English have the two at the top of the market in East India Dock and Lulamba, I fancy Hello Neighbour to win it for Ireland.

The form of both East India Dock and Lulamba has been let down in the last couple of days and I think Hello Neighbour can triumph in the Triumph for Gavin Cromwell and Keith Donoghue, who have had a good week so far in the Cotswolds.

Kargese is a fascinating runner in the County Hurdle for last year's winning connections of Willie Mullins and Paul Townend.

She looks potentially very well handicapped after finishing second to Majborough in the Triumph Hurdle last year.

Off a mark of 141, she should be very, very hard to beat.

The Mares' Chase sees a rematch between last year's winner and runner-up Limerick Lace and Dinoblue.

A lot of the short-priced favourites have been beaten this week, but Dinoblue should go very close here for JP McManus.

She was a good winner last time out in Naas when beating stablemate Allegorie De Vassy, who she faces again here.

I also wouldn't rule out Brides Hill each-way for the Cromwell and Donoghue team in the 2m4½f contest.

The Big Westerner has done everything asked of her this season, winning at Punchestown in November before bolting up at Limerick on St Stephen's Day.

She's a fine big mare, three miles should definitely suit her and she looks the one in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle.

However, I would give an each-way shout to Ballybow for Gordon Elliott and Sam Ewing.

He won a Grade 3 at Clonmel when last seen and I think this race could really suit him.

The St. James's Place Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters' Chase is the penultimate race of the week and I'm siding with Willitgoahead, who was purchased by big owners Bective Stud ahead of the Festival.

He is having his first run for Gordon Elliott after beating Ramilles at Thurles last time out and I think he has the edge in this race over Angels Dawn.

Meanwhile, Kopeck De Mee looks like he's absolutely thrown into the Martin Pipe off a mark of 136 and will be very hard to beat.

But I'll give an each-way mention to Taponthego, with the drying ground to suit this.
