Jake Paul furiously storms out of Piers Morgan interview after fat-shaming host
by James Evans · Irish MirrorJake Paul dramatically walked out of an interview with Piers Morgan just days before he returns to the ring, following a tense spat. The 'Problem Child' is all set to go toe-to-toe with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in a cruiserweight bout taking place in Anaheim on Saturday.
The 28-year-old YouTube star hasn't stepped into the ring since his win over ex-heavyweight world champ Mike Tyson last November. Despite expectations for a knockout, Paul sailed to a unanimous decision victory.
In the lead-up to his latest fight, tensions flared during Paul's interview with Morgan. The two had a fall-out over the Ohio native's fight record and his potential as a boxer, including his contentious match with Tyson.
Adopting a lighthearted approach by wearing a Mexican sombrero ahead of his match with Chavez Jr, the American's mood soured, leading to him swiftly exiting the set. "I'm not talking about Mike Tyson...I'm trying to fight the best people, and that's why Chavez is here on Saturday.
"I want Canelo. I want Anthony Joshua. I want all these people. It's been five years in this sport," Paul declared after Morgan insisted that while he was an impressive entrepreneur, his boxing chops were still measured against a 58-year-old man, reports the Mirror.
Morgan interjected sharply, saying: "But the problem is the only proper boxer you fought was Tommy Fury, and he beat you. He's not even the best in his family."
Paul blasted back: "I mean, you can sit there and make up s***, but you actually don't know your facts. I fought multiple boxers with professional records, and including Mike Tyson himself, who I think is going to be a harder fight than Chavez."
The internet star boldly asserted he could have beaten a prime Tyson, a claim Morgan dismissed outright. An incensed Paul retorted: "You don't actually know that! You can't sit there and say that... I think anything is possible. That's why self belief is the most powerful thing in the world."
He continued: "You don't think I can be a Mike Tyson? I don't think you go to the gym!"
Morgan commented: "I think you're a great YouTuber, a great influencer. I admire what you try to do boxing, but I do think when you actually come up against a proper, serious boxer, and I suspect that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, maybe that person you, it could all come crashing down."
Paul sharply retorted: "I think the problem here Piers, is that you think that your opinion matters?".
When asked about the purpose of his presence if the host's views were unimportant, Paul cheekily responded: "Oh, I'm just taking your audience to sell pay per views. I don't give a f**k about your show, dumb a**. This is a f****** business enterprise. Buy the pay per view on Saturday, June 28, me versus Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Thank you, tune in everybody!".
He then abruptly ended the conversation which left Morgan with a wry smile as he quipped: "Cheers Jake, really enjoyed that, and good luck to Julio - knock him out for all of us will you?".
Before the interview reached its climax, Paul had arrogantly declared his certainty about winning the upcoming fight, remarking, "He's a dumb a**, and so it's going to be apparent on Saturday when he's the one that gets knocked out... I'm being so honest, man, this guy is easy work."
Chavez Jr, who has been less visible in the boxing scene lately, came back from a three-year break recently, securing victory against former UFC contender Uriah Hall. The ex-middleweight champion, boasting a record of 54-6-1-1, has challenged renowned boxers such as Andy Lee, Canelo Alvarez, and Daniel Jacobs.
