Cole Palmer's three-word dig at Trump during CWC celebrations

Cole Palmer was left scratching his head after Donald Trump unexpectedly turned up during Chelsea's Club World Cup victory celebrations. On the pitch, Palmer shone brightly, bagging a double and setting up Joao Pedro as Chelsea trounced Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final.

Yet, Trump nearly stole the limelight in the aftermath as he presented the trophy to Chelsea skipper Reece James and then lingered on stage. Palmer seemed perplexed by Trump's antics, seemingly questioning: "What's he doing?".

James too was taken aback by Trump's reluctance to exit the stage, and before lifting the trophy, he seemed to enquire: "Are you going to leave?" Even FIFA boss Gianni Infantino tried to coax Trump offstage, but to no avail.

And Palmer later admitted: "I knew he was going to be here but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy. I was a bit confused, yeah."

James added: "They told me that he was going to present the trophy and then exit the stage, and I thought that he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay. He just congratulated me and the team for lifting the trophy and told us to enjoy the moment."

Trump was booed by sections of the fans inside the MetLife Stadium and conducted an interview with broadcaster DAZN where he hailed the tournament, saying: "It's a big thing, Gianni's a friend of mine.

"But it's great to watch. This is a little bit of an upset we're watching today. [FIFA has done] fantastically well, it's a growing sport, it's a great sport."

However, Trump did eventually fade into the background and Chelsea were able to celebrate their triumph. "Obviously it's a great feeling, even better because everyone doubted us before the game," Palmer added.

"We knew that and to go out there and put a fight on like we did against a great team, yes, it's good. The gaffer put a great gameplan out.

"Obviously he knew where the space was going to be and he tried to free me up as much as possible, and I just had to repay him and score some goals.

"He's building something special, something important with a young team. Everyone's talked a lot of s*** about us all season, but I feel like we're going in the right direction."
